Responsible Gambling, Responsible Gambling Week and IGRG

Responsible Gambling

Gambling is a form of entertainment that you pay for. When we talk about responsible gambling we're talking about being able to gamble without putting yourself or others at risk. This boils down to understanding what the risks are, with any form of gambling, and being able to make an informed choice about whether you participate or not.

Helping players manage their engagement with gambling is something that the gambling sector is firmly committed to and works hard on every day of the year.

There are mandatory requirements for ensuring that players are suitably informed, provided with tools to help them manage their engagement and provided with further information and help should they need this, All sectors go above and beyond these minimum requirements, each taking a slightly different approach, influenced by their mode of operation and customer needs.

Over arching details of the approaches taken by each sector can be found in the SECTORS section of this area.

Responsible Gambling Week

Responsible Gambling Week 2019 runs from 7th - 13th November and is a campaign led by the gambling industry that aims to create a conversation with customers, staff and the wider public about gambling responsibly, driving awareness of:

  • how to gamble responsibly;
  • the tools that are available to help people gamble safely all year round;
  • sources of more advice and support.
The whole of the UK and Irish gambling industry – amusement arcades, bingo clubs, bookmakers, casinos and online – has come together to support Responsible Gambling Week along with some leading pub operators, youth groups, and interested third parties.

The Industry Group for Responsible Gambling

The Industry Group for Responsible Gambling (IGRG) is a not-for-profit organisation, comprising the five trade associations which represent the gambling industry:

The Association of British Book Makers (ABB)
The Amusement and Games Machine Industry (batca)
The Bingo Association (BA)
The National Casino Forum (NCF)
The Remote Gambling Association (RGA)

IGRG was established in 2014 and incorporated in November 2015. Its mission is to provide a structure to better promote socially responsible gambling across all gambling sectors in Great Britain.

IGRG has developed and co-ordinated Responsible Gambling Week on behalf of the trade associations and the gambling industry in Great Britain.
